Introduction
Your aspiration defines the guiding purpose of your business or why your business exists? It answers the question - What does success look like for your business and why does your business matter?
Foundation for excellence
Moreover, aspirations are the foundations of excellence. Lafely and Martin in their book Playing to Win, compel business leaders to define a winning aspiration in terms of providing superior value in their chosen market. They state that anything less than winning or creating superior value creates an environment of mediocrity. They assert, any team not aiming for excellence, will not be able to deliver superior value.
Creating superior value or winning, is difficult. It will require dedication and difficult choices. When your teams have winning as an aspiration and sets its sights high on creating superior value, then an environment to make those choices of excellence is established. An environment is created to discover ways to delight customers in ways that others cannot.

After aspirations
You and your team can complete any Canvas section where it seems to make sense based on your business, industry, customer and other expertise. Order becomes less important, but before declaring your strategy formulation complete ensure consistency and completeness from top to bottom and side to side in the Strategic choices canvas.
Your aspiration challenge
Amongst your leadership team and teams, ask them to define what impact your business aims to have on the lives of its customers or the customers of that team?
Record the results. Evaluate are they consistent? Do they represent a unified approach to understanding and meeting the dreams, desires, and needs of the customers?
With your leadership team and teams develop and socialize both a customer and business aspiration to create an environment of unified ambition and excellence.
