Your Strategic choices are your blueprint for success. Your Strategy kernel enables you to identify where you are, need to be, so you can create a high value focussed coherent response to your choices and current situation to get your business to where it needs to be.
You have made or substantially made your strategic choices. Hence, you, your leadership team and stakeholders have a common and unified understanding of:
Your customer and business aspirations.
You have at least some KPI's in place to measure your progress
You have some business drivers defined to influence your KPI's
Where you play / compete including
Industry / industry segment
Industry / industry segment rivals - who else plays in your arena
Customer needs - what problem you solve for your target customers (Jobs to be Done) and the functional, emotional and social needs your business satisfies.
Customer segments - demographic, psychographic, behavioural etc characteristics of who your business best serves in satsifying those needs.
Geographic regions your business provides and supports its offerings.
Relative price - for example budget, economy, mass-market, premium etc.
Your where to play choices are mutually supportive. So, that customers with the needs satisfied, exist in your geographic region and there is a willingness to pay to have those needs satisfied.
How you will succeed / win
You have made your how to succeed choices and have confidence your business can delight your target customer needs in ways that rivals do / can not.
How you will manage and sustain
Having established your choices, you understand the policies, procedures and systems necessary to manage the strategy and the capabilities required. Additionally, you have identified or have in mind identifying how to minimize imitation of your how to win formula.
Now
You need to transition from choice making to identify an effective path to bring choices to life and transitioning from where your business is to where it needs to be.
